Editor: This print by Robert Adams features two striking red figures against a stark black background. They appear almost totemic. What social narratives do you see at play here? Curator: The forms evoke a sense of ritual, perhaps linked to post-war anxieties and the search for new forms of communal identity. Does the abstraction of the human figure suggest to you a broader commentary on the alienation of the individual in modern society? Editor: I hadn’t considered that! It seems the artist is commenting on humanity. Curator: Exactly. Art often holds a mirror to society, reflecting our fears and aspirations. The power lies in how these abstracted forms can speak to collective experiences. Editor: I’ll definitely look at abstract forms differently going forward. Thanks!
