Editor: I guess I’d expect upper-class people from a different century? Maybe someone who appreciates beauty. Curator: Indeed. And it's worth noting that paintings such as "Springtime", intentionally evoke an earlier era – reflecting a certain nostalgia for simpler, more “picturesque” times, carefully constructed for a modern audience, participating in market of aesthetic longing. How do you think the work's title "Springtime" factors into this construction? Editor: It emphasizes the renewal and freshness. Is the “freshness” meant to echo their youth? Is this “idealized” world just available to some privileged few? Curator: Precisely. The art world can function to both display, and sometimes unintentionally to mask these social and political dimensions. Has our conversation changed your perception of "Springtime?" Editor: It has.
