Sol LeWitt made this work with paint, in horizontal lines of color. What gets me is how the colors move. It's a whole process, like watching water ripple. Take a look at the way the paint’s applied. See those subtle shifts in tone? It's not just flat color; there's depth and texture. It feels like he’s not trying to hide the hand, but isn't really showing it off either. The surface is really important to understanding this work, with the thin layers built up to form a unified field of undulating bands. The odd flash of red seems to create a focal point, but then it disappears. LeWitt reminds me a bit of Agnes Martin, who was also interested in how color and line could create a sense of calm and openness. Both artists invite us to slow down, to look closely, and to find beauty in simplicity.
