Editor: This drawing, "Oh, my cherished Victor... I feel a poem coming!" by Honoré Daumier, looks like it's capturing a rather dramatic moment. The title itself is so over-the-top! What do you make of this scene? Curator: Oh, Daumier! He always had a keen eye for satire. It seems to me, darling, that he is mocking the pretensions of artistic types, perhaps particularly the bourgeois woman seeking artistic inspiration. The wind whipping around them – does it seem romantic or ridiculous? Editor: Ridiculous, definitely! The woman looks like she’s about to be blown off the cliff. Curator: Exactly! Perhaps Daumier is saying, "Dear artists, come back down to earth". And you, my dear, always keep your feet on the ground. Editor: I will! Thanks for that insight.
