Cassidy Rae Marietta created Fracture In Fate using flat colour and bold lines to arresting effect. The piece is framed by a decorative border, but the eye is immediately drawn to the central figure, a woman whose gaze is both vulnerable and knowing. Marietta employs several visual strategies that seem to destabilize conventional readings. For instance, the simplified, almost cartoonish rendering of the human figure contrasts with the more detailed depiction of the surrounding flora and skeletal forms.
