George Hendrik Breitner created "Bukkende figuren" using graphite on paper. This work is a study, a quick sketch capturing figures in motion with raw immediacy. Look closely, and you’ll notice how the graphite is applied in layers, some lines bold and assertive, others faint and almost ghostly. This technique, coupled with the choice of paper, gives the sketch a tactile quality, an almost palpable sense of the artist's hand at work. The energy of the artist's process is still visible. Breitner was not only a painter but also a skilled draughtsman, adept at capturing fleeting moments. The sketch invites us to consider the labor involved in artistic creation, and to see drawing not just as a preliminary exercise, but as a valuable form of expression in its own right. It challenges us to look beyond the finished product and appreciate the artistry inherent in the process itself.
