Composition 

Ion Alin Gheorghiu’s abstract Composition presents us with a fascinating puzzle of symbols, inviting us to explore the deeper currents of meaning flowing beneath its fragmented surface. At the heart of the image, we see what appears to be an eye, echoing ancient protective symbols found across various cultures, from Egyptian art to Greek apotropaic masks. These “eyes” were often placed on objects and buildings, intended to ward off evil and protect against misfortune. Notice the presence of natural elements and the grid motifs on the surface. Grids appear throughout art history, representing order, control, and sometimes imprisonment. These motifs are deeply embedded in our collective consciousness. These symbols create a powerful emotional tension. It is as though they resurface through the ages, carrying with them traces of past hopes, fears, and beliefs. The image resonates with the knowledge that symbols, like memories, evolve over time, acquiring new layers of meaning while still echoing their ancient origins.
