Curatorial notes
Curator: Jack Gould's untitled photograph, a silver gelatin print, captures a fleeting moment: a girl on the phone, glimpsed through a doorway. It feels like eavesdropping, doesn't it? Editor: Absolutely. That keyhole view, the intimate gesture of the phone to her ear... it speaks volumes about hidden lives and private moments. The clothing hanging nearby almost looks like a theater curtain. Curator: The negative presentation shifts the familiar into something dreamlike, almost ghostly. It amplifies the sense of voyeurism, and the vulnerability of youth. Editor: Yes, I'm curious about the telephone, an earlier form of social media. The telephone implies connection and yet the girl is physically isolated by the doorway. Curator: It's a little like seeing her thoughts made visible, the world inverted and yet emotionally present. Makes me wonder what she's saying. Editor: A whisper across time, preserved in silver. I'm left pondering all the unseen exchanges that have shaped our world.
