Nathan Lerner made this photograph, 'Morning Light', using black and white film and traditional darkroom processes. The image gets its power from the contrast between the soft, undulating forms of the bedclothes and the rigid geometry of the window and balcony. The textures are tactile: you can almost feel the weight of the blankets and the coldness of the iron. The image's social significance emerges from its intimate portrayal of domestic life, hinting at the personal stories embedded within everyday spaces. Lerner's careful composition and attention to detail elevate a simple scene to a moment of quiet beauty. In doing so, the photograph asks us to reconsider what is aesthetically relevant and what constitutes meaningful subject matter for art, blurring the boundaries between the crafted and the commonplace.
