Jason Limon's painting presents a skeleton chilling in an armchair, remote in hand. It's the kind of painting that feels both familiar and unsettling, like a quirky dream you can't quite shake. I can imagine Limon layering thin glazes of paint, building up the textures of the leather chair and the ornate wallpaper. You can almost feel the smoothness of the bones and the worn softness of the chair. The color palette is muted and warm, with a touch of melancholy in the grays and browns. I wonder if Limon was thinking about the passage of time, mortality, or maybe just the absurdity of existence when he made this. That slight tilt of the skeleton's head, the casual way it holds the remote – it’s got personality. It reminds me of Magritte, but with a modern, slightly darker twist. Artists are always riffing off each other, borrowing and transforming ideas across time. It makes you think about the conversations happening between artworks, across centuries. This painting makes space for different interpretations, and it's through this ambiguity that the work comes alive.
