Editor: This print, S. Peter Penitent by Jonas Umbach, shows a figure kneeling in what looks like remorse. The etching is so detailed, it almost feels like a tangled emotional state. What do you make of this piece? Curator: Well, the penitent Peter—such heavy lines to convey contrition, wouldn't you say? Look how Umbach positions the rooster, a biblical alarm clock, forever reminding Peter of his denial. What a weight that bird carries! Editor: It's like the rooster is the embodiment of guilt. I never thought of it that way. Curator: Exactly! And the keys discarded beside him – symbolic of lost authority, or perhaps a burden now laid down? It's a poignant reflection on faith and human fallibility. Editor: So much to unpack! I'll never look at a rooster the same way again. Curator: Ha! Art does that to you, doesn't it? It clucks and crows until you see the world anew.
