Curatorial notes
Editor: This is an intriguing, untitled photograph by C. Bennette Moore, depicting a woman with a pipe sitting on a stoop. It feels very immediate and raw. What stands out to you? Curator: The materiality of the photograph itself is compelling. Consider the labor involved in early photographic processes. The chemicals, the exposure time, the darkroom… it all speaks to a very different kind of image production than our digital age. What does this process tell us about how images were circulated and consumed at the time? Editor: That's a great point. It definitely makes me think about the value we place on images today versus then. Thank you!
