Here's Renoir, painting *Ésquisse De Paysage Du Midi* with oil on canvas, turning a landscape into a shimmer of light and colour. I can almost see him, squinting in the sun, trying to catch the way light dances on the leaves. Look at the blues and greens all mixed up, the yellows zing! The paint's not trying to be neat, it's all about feeling the breeze and hearing the rustle of leaves. He's smudging and dabbing, like he's knitting colours together. Those yellows really grab you, don't they? Like little bursts of sunshine right there on the canvas. I like to think of Renoir chatting with Monet, maybe arguing about how to paint shadows – they were always pushing each other, you know? Painting is like that, a big conversation across time, everyone borrowing and stealing and making something new. It's not about getting it "right," it's about how it makes you feel.
