This albumen print captures a view in Geneva with the Quai du Mont-Blanc. At the base of this photograph there is a horse and carriage. The horse, a symbol of power and virility, stretches back through the ages, from the steeds of the Greek gods to the chargers of medieval knights. The image is interesting in that it is at a time of change for society, and the horse and carriage, a symbol of the times, will inevitably soon be replaced. Consider the "S" curve of technological adoption, where a new invention initially has a hard time taking off and then rapidly increases as it becomes a new norm. The horse will eventually become a symbol of the past. This photograph captures the essence of a transitional moment, where the old and the new coexist, each carrying its own set of cultural memories and subconscious associations. It is not merely a depiction of a place, but a powerful force that engages us on a deeply psychological level.
