Cornelis van Noorde created this print titled, *Gezichten in de Haarlemmerhout*, sometime in the 18th century. This monochrome image is divided into three horizontal registers, each offering a distinct vista of the Haarlemmerhout. The composition strikes a balance between naturalistic depiction and constructed design. The varying landscapes each contain different structural elements which create meaning. The upper scene presents a domestic scene framed by trees, while the middle ground opens into an expansive pasture. The lower register uses linear perspective to draw the eye down a tree-lined path. This stratification of space invites us to consider how landscapes are categorized and framed, influencing our perception. Van Noorde destabilizes a singular view, offering instead a triptych of spatial experiences. Through its formal arrangement, this print prompts us to reflect on the act of viewing itself, suggesting that meaning is constructed through the interplay of different perspectives and the structures that contain them.
