This ornate watch was crafted by J. Tarts in the late 18th century from silver and other materials. The face of the watch is adorned with intricate floral patterns along the perimeter, surrounding an inner dial, upon which the artist's signature is emblazoned. Note the heraldic lions flanking the maker's name in the centre, symbols echoing back to ancient Mesopotamia, where lions signified power and royalty. This motif then resurfaces in medieval heraldry, a testament to the enduring human fascination with strength and dominion. Over centuries, the lion has evolved from a symbol of divine authority to a more secular emblem of prestige, yet the underlying psychological resonance remains potent, still engaging our subconscious notions of power and control. Observe the non-linear progression of this symbol; watch how it resurfaces, evolves, and takes on new meanings in differing historical contexts.
