Here's a small photograph by Delizy, "Straat in Quimper, op de achtergrond de kathedraal Saint-Corentin". It feels like a fleeting moment, bleached by time. Look at the way the light filters through this street, almost as if it’s trying to escape the heaviness of the stone buildings. I imagine Delizy, setting up their camera, waiting for the right instant, maybe even holding their breath to freeze a slice of life. You know, it's kind of interesting how the background cathedral becomes one of the characters in this photo, peering between the buildings as if to observe what's going on here. I can't help but think of Eugène Atget, who made photographs of streets in Paris, who had an eye for finding the extraordinary in ordinary places. Delizy is part of a lineage of artists who are interested in how the world looks and feels, a conversation across time and place. And the way the details emerge in a photograph, they create a feeling of something that is both here and not here, present and past, caught in the act of becoming.
