This is an image of a postcard to Philip Zilcken, probably made with ink on paper by Léon Paschal. Looking at this card, I’m really drawn to the fluid gesture of the handwriting. It’s like a dance of the hand, each word a step in the choreography. You can imagine Paschal carefully forming each letter, the ink flowing smoothly from the pen. I wonder, was he in a rush, or did he take his time, savoring each stroke? It's fascinating how writing itself becomes a form of art here, blurring the lines between language and image. I think about other artists who use text in their work – Cy Twombly comes to mind, or maybe even some of Ed Ruscha’s word paintings. There’s something so intimate and personal about handwriting, like a direct connection to the artist’s thoughts and emotions. It’s almost like peeking into their mind, you know?
