This is Pino Pinelli’s Pittura GR N, and it seems to be made with acrylic, a very playful medium for artmaking. I’m drawn to the way Pinelli fearlessly uses the physicality of paint. It's not just color; it’s substance. Look at the vertical ridges, like corduroy, thick and almost sculptural. You can almost feel the texture, the way the paint rises and falls. The contrast between the green and dark sections creates a tension, a visual push and pull. I keep coming back to the raw edges of the piece. There’s a certain honesty in leaving them exposed, as if to say, "This is the edge of the idea; this is where the painting stops." It reminds me a little of Lucio Fontana, who also embraced the physical act of painting. Pinelli is less violent than Fontana, but he does carry a similar kind of radicality. Ultimately, this piece is about seeing what paint can do, and maybe even what it wants to do.
