This porcelain vase was made by the Cozzi Manufactory between 1764 and 1812. Note the prominent motifs: garlands of flowers, idyllic landscape framed in an oval medallion, and the pair of proud roosters, all rendered in stark monochrome. The rooster, a symbol of vigilance and rebirth, can be traced back to ancient Persia and Greece, often associated with the dawn and solar deities. Its image has persisted through the ages, adorning Roman coins, medieval tapestries, and even weather vanes atop barns. Here, the twin roosters evoke a sense of alertness, framing the serene landscape. This positioning is evocative. The landscape within the medallion offers an escape into a harmonious, almost dreamlike realm; the roosters perhaps stand as guardians, protecting the peace and tranquility from external threats. In essence, they are emblems of awareness, standing guard over our own subconscious desires.
