Curatorial notes
This untitled print, made by Lamouche, presents a series of vignettes, each bordered in a grid-like format, rendered with a palette of light blues, greens, and browns. The composition employs a comic strip layout to tell its story. Lamouche structures the narrative through the arrangement of these individual scenes, inviting us to follow a sequence that is both spatial and temporal. The figures and their interactions are rendered with a certain flatness, reminiscent of popular prints of the time. This directs our attention to the unfolding events. Through the semiotic lens, the actions and reactions of the characters are culturally encoded. The artwork subtly challenges conventional social hierarchies and reflects shifts in cultural values, questioning established norms of behavior and representation. This print serves as a reminder that art is always subject to reinterpretation, varying according to shifts in perception, knowledge, and historical context.
