Editor: This is Harold Cohen’s "First Folio C" from the Tate collection. The combination of pinks, greens, and blacks creates a kind of digital landscape. What can you tell me about it? Curator: I see an exploration of the means of artistic production itself. Cohen was deeply involved with computers and AI, and this work reflects that interest. What role do you think the automation of artistic labor plays here? Editor: Interesting! So the process and materials used are as much a part of the artwork as the final image itself. I hadn't considered that. Curator: Precisely. By focusing on the "how" of creation, Cohen challenges the traditional view of the artist as a solitary genius. It encourages us to think about the social and technological context of art making. Editor: This has been very insightful. I'll definitely look at art through a different lens now. Curator: Indeed. Thinking about the materials and processes involved really opens up new ways to interpret art.
