Cricorps made this work, entitled 'Corbo et Renard', with paint on canvas. The artist uses the basic materials of oil paint in a rather unusual way. Notice how the paint is applied in a web of interlocking shapes, creating the forms through networks of lines. The artist seems more interested in form than color. The approach, with its emphasis on outlines, has an affinity with stained glass, but also perhaps with printed material. The artist seems to be asking a question: how little is needed to produce an image? This is a question that touches on much wider issues of production and labor. Here, the artist seems to be embracing efficiency, almost as if on an assembly line. By emphasizing the means of production – the bare minimum required – Cricorps encourages us to think about the relationship between artistic practice and other kinds of work.
