Curatorial notes

Editor: This is "A Tower," a watercolor by Joan González, its date is unknown. The way the tower emerges from the green mass, almost like a natural formation, is quite striking. What catches your eye about the work? Curator: Looking at this piece, I consider the materiality of watercolor itself. How does the fluidity and transparency of the medium influence our perception of the tower as less solid, more ephemeral? Editor: That's interesting, I hadn't thought of that. So the medium shapes how we understand the subject? Curator: Precisely. And how does that relate to the social context of art production at the time, perhaps a move away from traditional, monumental sculpture? Editor: It gives me a lot to consider. Thank you.
