This bowl, made by a Nubian artist, has a surface teeming with zigs and zags; like a whole language of geometric shapes carved into its surface. The material itself seems so tactile, like you could run your fingers over the surface and feel the history embedded in each line. The black of the bowl is a canvas for these lighter, almost golden incisions, creating a dance of light and shadow that animates the object. Look at the way the patterns shift and change, especially the band of diamonds that cascade down its side. It’s all so precise, yet somehow retains a handmade quality. I’m reminded of the ceramic work of Lucie Rie, who also created vessels with a strong sense of form and surface texture. But here, the bowl feels more raw, more directly connected to the earth, offering a glimpse into a world where art and life are inseparable.
