This is a letter to Andries Bonger by Käthe Wintzer, made on paper, at some point. I find the cursive script so beautiful and kind of performative, you know? Each word is an event. The slightly watery, yet dense ink creates a world of subtle variations. It makes me think about the relationship between gesture and form in artmaking. The loops and swirls of her handwriting make me think of Cy Twombly’s looping line paintings or the gestural abstraction of Joan Mitchell. There’s a real sense of immediacy and fluidity, like she is drawing with words. Look at how the ink pools and spreads in certain areas, creating darker, more intense moments. The handwriting reminds us of the physical act of writing, the pressure of the pen on the page, the rhythm of the hand. This letter form becomes a record of thought and feeling, a kind of abstract expressionism in its own right.
