This is a chair with three open-worked panels in the center of the backrest, made by ‘t Binnenhuis. The immediate impression is one of clarity and careful structure. The chair is made from wood, and the seat is upholstered. Notice how the lines of the chair are primarily straight, creating a sense of order. The design integrates a geometric structure with vertical lines, balanced by the horizontal support of the back and seat. The three vertical slots in the backrest introduce a rhythmic element, which interrupts the solid structure of the chair and creates a dialogue between the solid and void. The chair subtly destabilizes expectations of traditional furniture. The simplicity and reduction of ornament challenge fixed ideas about luxury and comfort. The chair becomes more than just a functional object. It is an exploration of form, space, and the interplay between them. Ultimately, the chair invites us to reconsider the boundaries between art and function and how everyday objects can embody complex ideas.
