Johannes Josseaud made this print, Sint Annendwarsstraat, at some point in his career. What strikes me is how he uses the etching technique to convey a sense of depth and space, making a narrow street feel vast. Look at the way the lines converge, pulling your eye towards the distant tower. You can almost feel the cool air of the street. The details are incredible, like the bicycles leaning against the buildings, and the subtle shadows that suggest a quiet, everyday moment. Josseaud’s work reminds me a little of Piranesi's architectural prints. Both artists share this ability to find a kind of sublime beauty in the urban landscape. Ultimately, it’s a great reminder that art isn't about perfect representation but about feeling and interpretation.
