This print of a window with curtains was made in France, we don't know exactly when. It is from a series called "Le Magasin de Meubles" or "The Furniture Store". It's interesting to note that the print is titled "Petit Lambrequin Feston Marie-Antoinette." The reference to the former French queen suggests that these window dressings are intended to evoke a sense of luxury, royalty, and perhaps even nostalgia for a bygone era. This was made some time after the French Revolution, so the print may represent a desire to connect with France's rich cultural history. The identity of the artist is unknown, but the publisher is named as V.L. Quetin. Who was Quetin? Was this one of a stable of artists? These are the kinds of questions that social art historians ask, answering them by delving into archives and libraries. We can learn so much about the social and institutional forces that create art and visual culture.
