Gazmend Freitag's "Two Dancers" was made with pastel and pencil in 2014. It has these really beautiful and soft gestural marks and a color palette of red, white, black, and brown. Looking at this, I start to imagine the act of drawing itself—how it came into being, shifting and emerging through trial, error, and intuition. I can just see Freitag with his materials—what must he have been thinking when he made it? You see the way the surface of the paper peeks through, giving it that raw, unfinished quality? It's like he’s capturing a fleeting moment. The red accents add a pop of energy, like the dancers are caught in a moment of passion. It reminds me of Degas, but with a more intimate, personal touch. Artists are always in an ongoing conversation, right? Exchanging ideas across time, inspiring each other’s creativity. This piece is all about embodied expression, embracing ambiguity and uncertainty, allowing for multiple readings.
