This is Edvard Munch’s ‘Beach Landscape’, an etching worked on a metal plate. Look at the lines, how they create depth! I imagine him, scratching away, lost in thought, trying to capture the essence of this windswept place. It’s all about the energy of the lines, isn’t it? Notice how the trees lean, almost dancing in the breeze. And the way the land meets the sea – it’s like a sigh. Munch was obsessed with inner states, the psychological, right? I wonder if this landscape is a mirror to what was going on inside him. A bit like Van Gogh’s landscapes, it’s more than just a pretty picture, it’s a feeling made visible. Artists like Munch inspire me – they remind us that art is about so much more than technique. It’s about being brave enough to put your soul on a plate, or canvas, for everyone to see. It’s a reminder that art is a constant conversation across time.
