Emma Wilson made this drawing of a whiskey glass with graphite and colored pencil on paper. You can see the pale grey shades of the glass itself, so delicate, like the first light of dawn, or maybe an early morning fog. I can imagine Emma, sitting in her studio, carefully observing the way light bends and refracts through the glass. There’s something so meditative about focusing on a single object, trying to capture its essence with just a few lines and shades. It reminds me of those quiet moments in the studio when I’m lost in the process of painting, trying to find the right color or the perfect brushstroke. And notice those studies on the surface around the image of the glass. It feels like a conversation across time, a reminder that we're all part of this ongoing dialogue, riffing off each other's ideas, pushing the boundaries of what painting can be.
