This Valentine card features the prevalent symbol of Cupid, armed with his bow, ready to strike with the piercing arrow of love. The figure of Cupid, traceable to the Greco-Roman god Eros, appears throughout history. But even before, we see a connection to the Indian god of love, Kama, often depicted with a bow and arrows. This Cupid figure evolved from a representation of raw desire to a symbol of innocent affection, particularly in the Victorian era. Here, we observe Cupid adorned with butterfly wings. Butterflies are symbols of transformation, and they are psychologically potent symbols of metamorphosis and rebirth. The transformation of the heart when struck by love's arrow, becoming something new. This evokes a subconscious connection to shared human experiences, creating a powerful emotional resonance. Cupid, the butterfly, love, and transformation–a potent combination. Through time, Cupid may be reimagined, but his essence remains, a testament to the enduring power of love.
