Guido Molinari made "Mutation serielle verte-rouge" with vertical bands of colour, not concerned with hiding the process, but almost flaunting it.   Up close, you can see where one colour meets another, like looking at the horizon line. The paint isn’t overworked; it’s just there, doing its thing. I find myself wanting to know more about Molinari's process - what came first? Did he mix the colours himself, or did he use them straight from the tube? Was it a tape job, or did he do it all by hand? What can this tell us about the nature of hard-edge abstraction, or the possibilities of the monochrome? There's a particular spot where the red meets the green, where the line isn't perfect, and that imperfection, that wobble, is where the magic happens for me. It reminds me of Sol LeWitt's wall drawings, where the idea is the thing, and the execution is left to others. It’s this kind of openness, this willingness to let go of control, that makes art so exciting. Art isn't about perfection; it's about exploration, about trying things out and seeing what happens.
