Curator: This is an untitled print by Anish Kapoor. Editor: It's stark; the central form almost pulsates against that dark background. Curator: Kapoor's work often plays with negative space and perception, and this print is no different. It makes me think of how institutions frame and affect the perception of artworks. Editor: Exactly, the texture! Look at how the light catches the rough edges of the form. It feels almost... corporeal. Curator: Given Kapoor's history, and the socio-political climate in which his art is exhibited, one has to wonder how identity shapes our reception of the work. Editor: I see the composition as quite simple, yet emotionally evocative. There's a tension created by the contrast. Curator: Ultimately, I'm left contemplating how museums shape what we deem valuable. Editor: The light and shadow play creates a tangible weight. I find it compelling.

This is one in a suite of thirteen etchings entitled Blackness from Her Womb. The suite was produced in an edition of thirty of which the first twelve were bound as books, and the remaining eighteen were presented unbound in boxed portfolios made of hand-dyed parchment. Tate’s suite is number twenty-five, and is one of the portfolio versions. Each of the thirteen prints is signed by the artist. The project was designed and printed by master engraver Jacob Samuel.
