This artwork titled 'Where?' by George Albert Harris is a real puzzle! Look at how Harris uses the push and pull of black and white, creating geometric forms that suggest a figure in space, maybe even trapped inside a wooden structure. What was Harris thinking as he made this? It’s like he’s building a world, piece by piece, with each line carefully considered and placed to build something that is both abstract and figurative. The textures, achieved through the meticulous application of ink, invite us to feel the grain of the wood and the weight of the shadows. Is it a prison, or maybe a refuge? Harris invites us into a space where answers aren't straightforward. Instead, we're left wondering about the nature of perception, and the many ways of seeing. Like many artists, he has taken inspiration from those who came before him, as well as offering inspiration for artists working today.
