Pieter Henket made "The Impossible Task [The Mole and the Sun]" using photography, and honestly, it feels like a dream you can't quite grasp. The muted palette is interesting – like the world is holding its breath. The texture is incredible. Look at that figure in the cloak! It’s like a walking landscape, each ridge and fold telling a story. I love the way the light catches the fabric, it feels almost sculptural. There's something melancholic and tender about the image. The boy standing on the table seems to be trying to pass something to the other figure, but his expression is intense and thoughtful. What is this 'impossible task'? It has echoes of work by Gregory Crewdson, but with a much more intimate and personal feel. Ultimately, it's about connection, or maybe the struggle to connect, leaving you with more questions than answers – which is what good art should do.
