This is Nancy Crimi's "Boy's Suit," a drawing with graphite on paper. I'm struck by the precision, the utilitarian beauty of these shapes laid out like puzzle pieces, each line a deliberate step in a process. Crimi’s hand is so present, it feels like you could lift each piece right off the page. I keep thinking about this one little curve, here, look – it's on the left side, part of the pattern for the jacket. See how it swells and tapers, confident and full of purpose? It’s just a line, but it holds so much potential, the promise of form and function. It’s the kind of gesture that only comes from years of practice, of knowing exactly where to place your hand and how much pressure to apply. Crimi's drawing feels almost sculptural, like a blueprint for something real, and yet it stands alone as a work of art in its own right. It makes me think of Agnes Martin, another artist who found beauty in the simple act of mark-making. They both remind us that art is not just about the finished product, but the journey of making itself, the conversation between the hand, the eye, and the heart.
