This page, from a 1928 edition of "Art - Goût - Beauté," uses simple line drawings to showcase the elegance of women's fashion. It’s interesting how these minimal strokes manage to convey so much about form and movement. The texture here is all about the paper itself – smooth, with the ink sitting almost delicately on the surface. If you look closely at the figures, you can see how the artist varies the pressure to create a sense of depth and shadow with what is essentially a single weight of mark. There’s a fluidity to the lines, as though the hand moved confidently and swiftly, capturing the essence of each dress. These drawings remind me of how art is always in conversation with itself. It has a similar energy to some of Cocteau's line drawings, finding a way to make something very stylish and contemporary from something incredibly simple. It shows how much you can say with a little.
