This ‘Vase’ was made by Marie Famularo on October 20th, 1934. Famularo worked as a designer for various companies throughout her career. As a woman working in the industrial and commercial arts in the early 20th century, she was helping to redefine the roles of women in the workplace. Her designs often involved domestic items, thereby subtly commenting on women's engagement with art, labor, and design. The imagery of the vase, with its pink hues and delicate details, reflects the aesthetic preferences of the time, appealing to feminine sensibilities and domestic ideals. The cherries might represent themes of domesticity or beauty and echo the visual culture of the time, in which domestic bliss was often depicted as a state of ideal happiness for women. Famularo's work allows us to reflect on the intersections of gender, labor, and design, inviting us to contemplate the complex contributions of women in shaping the material culture of their time.
