Editor: So here we have Manuela Sambo’s “Unity of Soul II” from 2012, done with acrylics. I’m struck by the figures’ almost ethereal, otherworldly quality, but also how grounded they feel by the organic shapes. What draws your eye, what story do you see unfolding? Curator: Story... I feel a quiet drama, an internal one. They remind me of priestesses or goddesses from some ancient, forgotten mythos. See how the green and blue figures connect? A vine winds between them, as if tethering two halves of the same spirit. The background is fire, yet it doesn't consume, doesn't threaten. Rather, it seems to give life, a fiery womb. Do you get that feeling, or am I just seeing things? Editor: No, I get it. It's like they're two sides of a coin, different but inextricably linked. The way the vine seems to grow from one hand to the other is particularly powerful. What do you think about the symbols on their chests? Are they just decorative, or do they mean something more? Curator: Oh, definitely more. That flower, and the sun-like pattern, look like representations of feminine and masculine cosmic energies. They are intentionally placed over the heart/soul, indicating perhaps a fusion, a reconciliation of opposites. Like yin and yang becoming whole. Think how interesting it is, that both hands of the women reach a different blossom… Editor: Hmm, I had not noticed that! That makes me think about interconnectedness and balance. Almost like each blossom embodies a different energy or offering within this unity of souls. I guess it's a lot deeper than it looks at first glance. Curator: Precisely! Art is an open invitation for exploration!
