This is Robert Frank’s film strip, made with his camera. It's called 'From the bus 78'. I imagine him, in a bus, holding his camera and rapidly shooting the world outside the window. All those fleeting moments and glimpses become a sequence. I guess he has to be fast, capturing the world as it unfolds through movement and rhythm, and the gritty realism of everyday life, its pace. Film is so good at documenting light and time, that you can see the traces of his eye. His marks are a kind of poetry, suggesting stories and feelings that words alone can't capture. I love the way he makes the most mundane subjects look beautiful. I think that Frank’s work has a punk aesthetic, that honesty. It’s like a conversation with the world, and his photographs are an invitation to join in, to question, to feel, to see. He’s a real inspiration, reminding me to stay curious, to keep pushing, and to always look for the beauty in the everyday.
