This white porcelain platter was crafted by the Doccia Porcelain Manufactory. It's encircled by reliefs of flowers, fruits, ribbons, and two distinct figural scenes. Notice how this platter is decorated with festoons of garlands and ribbons, motifs we often see in classical art and architecture, symbolizing celebration and abundance. The festoon, derived from ancient Roman traditions, was used in rituals to honor deities with offerings of fruits and flowers. Think back to the triumphal arches and altars adorned with similar arrangements! The Doccia Manufactory resurrected these pagan symbols and motifs, weaving them into the fabric of modern aristocratic life. The persistence of such visual languages reveals our deep-seated yearning to connect with primordial symbols and sensations. Just as in ancient times, these emblems provoke emotional states, engaging us on a subconscious level. This illustrates the cyclical dance of cultural memory. Motifs resurface, evolve, and take on new meanings, yet always carry traces of their origin.
