Olga Boznanska made these 'Flowers' with oil paint, and you can almost see her wrestling with the canvas, right? The marks are so gestural. The way the colors kinda bleed into each other...it's like she's searching for the right form, letting it emerge through layers of trial and error. I imagine her stepping back, squinting, maybe muttering to herself. You know, questioning every stroke. Is it too much? Not enough? That sort of thing. I mean, look at the surface! It is thick and crusty. You can feel the weight of the paint, the physicality of the medium. The reds and oranges, laid over those muddy greens and browns. She wasn’t interested in pretty pictures. It’s more like she’s grappling with something elusive. That one stroke of vibrant orange is saying, "Hang on, there's still life in this painting!" Like she's pushing against the gloom, refusing to let it all fade away. It makes me think about other painters like Morisot, who also tried to capture a fleeting moment. It's like this ongoing conversation, you know? We're all just riffing off each other, trying to make sense of the world through paint.
