Ľudovít Čordák created "In front of the house" with a flurry of brushstrokes, dancing across the canvas. Can you picture the painting itself? I see colours blooming – soft blues, greens, browns, and creams – like a garden in early summer. There's a real sense of light playing on the walls of the house and filtering through the trees. Look at that stroke of pale yellow on the tree trunk. You can almost feel the warmth of the sun. I can imagine Čordák standing there, squinting a little, trying to capture the essence of this place. It reminds me of other painters who were working en plein air around the same time. They were all trying to get at something real, something immediate, something about the way light transforms a scene. It’s like they were all in conversation, bouncing ideas off each other across time and space. And it’s an ongoing thing, this conversation, still inspiring us today.
