This is 's Lands Hospitaal / Paramaribo / Ned. Guyana, a vintage print by Augusta Curiel. I love the way these side-by-side images play with perspective and scale, it's like a visual poem about space. The upper image gives us a clear hospital view, while below, a bridge over a waterway invites you to imagine the journey to and from the building. Look closely, and you can see a car! The tones are muted, making the scene feel like a memory, a faraway place. The composition really strikes me, Curiel is not just documenting, she's composing a scene, framing a narrative about travel, transition, and place. It reminds me a bit of early Lee Friedlander, that same interest in structure. It is this sense of careful observation that lifts it above a simple photograph.
