Editor: This print, "Green Oxen" by Julian Trevelyan, is really striking with its angular forms and odd color choices! It feels almost like a dreamscape. What do you make of its sort of, otherworldly feel? Curator: Oh, it's a delicious little puzzle, isn't it? Trevelyan often walked the line between reality and the surreal. The oxen, rendered in stark lines, are almost architectural. Does that suggest anything to you? Perhaps the enduring presence of nature in our constructed world? Editor: That's interesting, I never thought of it that way. Curator: Or perhaps, it's simply a reminder that even the most solid-seeming things are, at their heart, constructs. Trevelyan lets us in on the joke. Editor: I see it now, and it is pretty funny! I didn't get it at first. Curator: Exactly! Art's like that; sometimes you need a nudge to see the wink.
