Curatorial notes

Editor: Here we have an Untitled print by Donald Judd from the Harvard Art Museums. It's just lines forming a box, and another line above. What do you see in this piece? Curator: Judd’s work exists in a fascinating historical moment. It challenges traditional art values of craft and expression by embracing industrial materials and seriality. What role do you think institutions like museums play in validating such unconventional art? Editor: I guess museums give it legitimacy by displaying it. Curator: Exactly. Judd critiqued the art world’s commercialization, yet his work found its place within it. It’s a complex relationship. Editor: That’s a good point. I hadn't considered how the art world itself shapes our understanding.
