Editor: Here we have Georg Baselitz's "Green VIII", a print from an unstated year. The density of the green and black is really striking. What can you tell me about this work? Curator: Notice how the labor-intensive woodcut process contrasts with the seeming spontaneity of the image. How does this tension challenge the traditional hierarchy placing painting above printmaking? Editor: It feels very raw and immediate. I hadn't thought about the contrast between labor and image before. Curator: Indeed, and consider how the limited edition, numbered as 7/30, affects its value as a commodity within the art market. Does this influence your view? Editor: It does. Thank you for offering that perspective! Curator: My pleasure! It's important to consider art as a product of both material and economic forces.
