Edvard Weie made this study for a painting, probably with graphite and maybe some coloured pencil on paper. This looks like a series of thoughts, one on top of the other. I love the marks, the squiggles and straight lines that feel both precise and tentative, like a dance on the page. It’s easy to imagine Weie, the artist, deep in thought, pencil in hand, trying to capture something elusive and fleeting. Look at the way the lines overlap and intersect; there’s a real sense of energy and movement. The smattering of small pastel dots add a playful, almost whimsical touch to the composition. I think of Cy Twombly when I look at this, especially in the way he lets his process be visible, making art that feels like an ongoing conversation. The best art invites us to bring our own experiences and interpretations to the table, embracing ambiguity rather than striving for easy answers.
